The course Plastic Extension of Music at the Malmö Academy of Music explores new ways of shaping and performing music in relation to other art forms. Throughout the course, participants have worked in close dialogue with the collections of Skissernas Museum through studies in the exhibitions and workshops with objects from the museum’s depositories.

Starting from sketches in the museum’s collection, each participant has selected one sketch and developed it further in another art form. By translating and transforming the ideas, expressions and intentions of the sketches, the project explores how an artistic draft can take on new form and meaning.

Over three days, 22-24 May, a small-scale presentation of the students’ interpretations will be shown in the Birgit Rausing Hall alongside the sketches that inspired them.

Participants: Amalia Garay Lukacs and Inês Paiva

The presentation is part of Skissernas Museum’s work with Object-Based Learning (OBL), a pedagogical method in higher education that uses physical objects – in this case works of art – to generate subject-specific questions and stimulate deep learning. The method is well grounded in research and contributes to the development of critical thinking and communication skills. Bu using the museum’s collection as a teaching resource, students and teachers can explore theories and ideas through tangible objects, leading to deeper and more engaging learning. At Skissernas Museum, part of Lund University, the method is used as an interdisciplinary resource in education within fields such as medicine, natural sciences, the humanities and law.
