Guided by the voice of Isabella Rossellini, we embark on a self-reflecting journey into the complex relation-ship between us humans and other animals. With humor and depth, we uncover animals’ astounding adaptations to our urban, modern lives, fostering deep contemplation about our shared presence in a world dominated by man.
We move from the habitats of city rats and pigeons to the absurd spectacles that define life under hypercapitalism: three goldfish sold for the price of one, monkeys negotiating with zookeepers over Coca-Cola, and horses transported across the globe in jumbo jets. Nature has been thrown off balance – and it is we humans who set the terms of coexistence.
So what can we learn about ourselves by observing other animals? Is it possible to loosen the boundary we have drawn between ourselves and the rest of the living? Or, as Rossellini puts it: Humans dare only to present themselves to themselves through the name they have clothed themselves in – human.
The film screening is followed by a talk with the directors.
