Welcome to the opening of this summer’s major exhibition Public Domain

Skissernas Museum presents the first major presentation of A Kassen’s art to a Swedish audience. For over twenty years, the four artists in A Kassen have been captivating the audience by sabotaging or changing details in public spaces, on buildings or in the functional infrastructure of architecture. The exhibition Public Domain provides a retrospective survey where the art group’s significant public artworks are presented. In parallel, a large newly created installation is shown where pieces and fragments of the urban space enter the museum’s exhibition halls.

For Skissernas Museum, A Kassen has created a series of portraits in which pixels become mosaics, revealing anonymised faces taken from digital map services. By placing these in an exhibition environment, disjointed parts of the city’s street life are portioned out into the controlled rooms. Together with actual objects from street environments such as lampposts, trash cans and bollards, a fragmented city walk is created.

A Kassen was formed in Copenhagen in 2004 and consists of Christian Bretton-MeyerMorten Steen HebsgaardSøren Petersen and Tommy Petersen.
