Malmö Art Academy was the first institution of its kind in Sweden to offer a dedicated programme in Fine Art. Until then, advanced art education in what was known as the ‘visual arts’ had been tied to traditional disciplines such as painting, printmaking or sculpture. With Fine Art shifted the focus towards individual studio practice, placing the open creative process firmly at the centre.

For an artist, the years of study can — and perhaps should — be a time of experimentation, disruption and unexpected encounters. Skissernas Museum celebrates the unpredictability of the artistic process. It therefore feels natural to give master’s students from Malmö Art Academy the opportunity to exhibit right here.

The museum’s galleries are densely arranged, much like an artist’s studio. Within this setting, the student exhibition has quietly grown into the permanent collections, almost without notice. The works challenge the order, disguise themselves, resist categorisation and allow the tangle of creativity to run free.

Participating artists:

Ylva Kublik Borg, Thomas Hostrup, Johnny Höglund, Ingrid Jacobsen, Felix Christiansson, Maria Nadia Nour, Emily Orlet, Anna Pezzoli, Sigrid Soomus, Marcus Wallström, Vigga H. Wæhrens, Hannes Östlund

14:30: Opening speeches with Museum Director Annie Lindberg, Curator Emil Nilsson, and Maj Hasager, Rector of Malmö Art Academy, on the terrace at restaurant På Skissernas

15:45–17:00: DJ Maria Nadia Nour on the restaurant’s terrace
