Work in Process and the Disruptive Force of Collage
At first glance Per Wizén’s works appear to be paintings or photographs of paintings, although his creations are much more intricate than the first encounter suggests. Wizéns extensive work process begins with a collage of thousands of small fragments. The pieces consist of reproductions from high quality art books, which are cut out by hand and then put together with extreme care to form new images based partly on the original, but with a significant shifting of both form and content. Subsequently, the collage is photographed in order to produce the finished work.
Per Wizén, b. 1966, resides and works in Malmö and was bestowed in 2008 with Barbro & Holger Bäckström’s Art Scholarship. He has been represented in numerous exhibitions across the globe and his works are found in several collections. The exhibition at Skissernas Museum, will be the first time Wizén´s series of collages are shown together with the final work. It will also present Wizén’s collages for his new series of work Subterranean.
