ARCHITECTURAL MUTATIONS

Architectural Mutations – From Archigram to the Future

The exhibition shows visionary scenarios and hidden potentials of the city of the future.

Taking as their point of departure the experimental architecture of the 1960s and groups such as Archigram, students of the course Mutating Architecture at the School of Architecture at Lund University engaged in research and process oriented formal experimentation (involving the analysis of reoccurring natural micropatterns) to develop their vision for the Slovenian city Maribor – European Capital of Culture in 2012 – and how it may look in 2112. Addressing such issues as urban agriculture, energy harvesting and vertical densification, the result is a peek into the possible futures of this historic city. Ultimately, the projects contribute to our understanding of not just the city of tomorrow but also the city of today.
